Get to know your breasts
Just as you lean about your hair and skin type in
order to care for it, so it makes sense to learn about your breasts. This is
important because it’s by noticing changes when you carry out
breast self-examination that
you can take prompt action to investigate any problems.
BREASTS THROUGH LIFE
Your breasts are going to go through normal changes throughout your life in
very much the same way as other organs in your body.
They will also age, and in this context I don’t mean they will flatten or sag,
but that the elements within them will bud, flower and wither. All the glandular
components will wax and wane in this way but they don’t necessarily do so to the
timetable if you keep them strong, fit and healthy with regular Project "B"
exercises.
The growth cycle of the lobules occurs first, followed by that of the glands and
last the ducts. Lobular development happens mostly in the late teens and early
twenties and shows up as the large number of fibro adenomas in this age group.
Tender, lumpy breasts and mastalgia, caused by menstrual hormones, are mainly a
feature of our over thirties, although they can also occur earlier and later.
The duct development cycle occurs in our forties and fifties. In postmenopausal
women ectasia, or dilation of the ducts, may give rise to benign conditions such
as nipple discharge and nipple inversion.

Clinical changes
Most women notice that just before menstruation their breasts enlarge and
their nipples become sensitive and even painful. The texture of the breasts
change and they become rather lumpy, with small discrete swellings that resemble
orange pips in both texture and size. These lumps are glands in the breast which
enlarge in preparation for pregnancy.

If pregnancy doesn’t occur, breasts return to their normal size and the
glands become imperceptible to touch within a few days, ready for re-growth the
next month. These changes in the breast are only one part of many changes that
occur in the female body as the result of the monthly ebb and flow of the female
hormones oestrogen and progesterone.
There is absolutely no need to live with the breasts you were born with or
developed. It is now possible for you to develop stronger, firmer, bigger and
healthier breasts. In a matter of 10 days to three weeks your
lover will notice the difference in size and appearance.
